Meet Allison Brown Owner of Alli B Down the Aisle!

Hi! My name is Allison Brown. I am the owner and founder of Alli B Down the Aisle which is an event planning business. I am currently based out of Lexington, Louisville, and surrounding counties. Behind the scenes of my event planning work you can find me trying new restaurants, planning trips with my friends, walking my dog, and most recently planning my own wedding! I am so thankful for the Lexington community and all of the amazing people and businesses that come with it. Thanks, everyone for giving me a little bit of your time! You can find me at @allibdowntheaisle. Enjoy!

Q: How long have you lived/worked in Lexington?

I have had roots in Lexington since I was born. I was raised in Nicholasville, college in Lexington, graduate school in Louisville, and now my business is based in both Lexington and Louisville and the surrounding counties!

Q: What led you to your current career and why do you love it?

My career in event planning came about in an untraditional route. My degrees are actually specialized in health sciences. However, event planning came very naturally to me. To be honest, I saw the back end of so many events go awry and customers mistreated or overcharged for services that I saw a gap in the market and went for it. My business grew over 400% from year one to year two. I am very thankful for that.

Q: What would you like for people to know about your job/business?

One thing people should know about me and my business that I believe has led to great success and continued recommendations is that I never tell my clients ‘no’. People come up with a lot of ideas and alternate ways they want their events to run, and no matter how unique or unusual they may be, I always find a way to make it happen.

Q: What or who has been your biggest inspiration?

I don’t have a specific inspiration within the field. I intentionally have taken a self-taught approach and limited my consumption of other businesses’ work in order to ensure that everything I do is 100% genuine to my ideas and my brand. I will say that the family and friends in my life who have encouraged me and given me kind words of affirmation have been the sole motivation behind having the courage to continue to grow a business.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Lexington and what is your go-to item on the menu?

Oh my gosh, I love the Lexington food scene. People rave about the restaurant industry in Louisville but I believe that Lexington is just as special. Just one favorite hmmm….I think I’m going to go with Ramsey’s, vegetarian hot brown is my favorite with a buffalo chicken salad right behind.

Q: If you could travel to anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

Europe! I’ve never been!

Q: What is your favorite thing about Lexington?

Keeneland and Kentucky Football. A doubleheader weekend can not be beaten in my book. Keeneland and LSUvUK at home on October 9th anyone????

Q: Where do you take friends and family from out of town when they visit?

Aside from football and Keeneland…Mirror Twin, Blue Stallion, Elkhorn Tavern, The Arboretum, McCarthy’s, the farmers market, I could go on and on…

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

I’m not big on long-term plans…but I have recently been toying with the idea of getting into a brick and mortar space with beautiful curated rental sets for events as well as a small space for people to host their special event from.

Q: If you could have lunch with any living person, who would it be?

Michelle Obama (but can we also invite Kris Jenner?)

Q: Where can we find you on your day off?

Probably at a wedding as a guest, to be honest, that is the only time I take a day off.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?

I don’t have a bucket list or really dream of things I want to do in my life…I just do them.

Q: What is something that most people don’t know about you?

I was a mascot at the University of Kentucky when I was a student there.

Q: What is a topic you wish you knew more about?

Everything. I am a firm believer in never being the smartest person in the room. Recently I’ve realized I don’t know nearly enough details about American history so maybe I could start diving in there.

Q: What is your favorite movie or TV show & what are you currently binge-watching?

Fun fact – I don’t watch movies. I’m currently binging Greys Anatomy for the 3rd time (I am a big-time repeat offender)

Q: What do you feel is an essential part of your daily or weekly routine that contributes to your overall well-being?

I give myself grace. If I don’t get to something right away I am able to detach from it, move on, and get to it the next day.

Q: If you were cast in a movie, who would your co-star be?

Amy Schumer

Q: Who is your go-to band or artist when you can’t decide on something to listen to?

I have a Kacey Musgraves/Tyler Childers mix playlist and it always hits the spot.

Q: If you could give advice to any group of people, what would it be?

You are capable and competent enough to do absolutely anything you want to do. I truly believe that.
