Nicole Gifford The Face Behind Share Lex!

I am a content creator and blogger, mom, and supporter of all things local! I was not born in Kentucky but Lexington definitely feels like home to me. I have a huge passion for helping people choose small businesses over chains, and I believe the biggest barrier that keeps people from supporting local more often is simply not knowing a local option exists.

Q: How long have you lived/worked in Lexington?

6 years

Q: What led you to your current career and why do you love it?

I started Share Lex as a way to share about the local businesses we were already going to and it has since become this incredible way to support local businesses, share them with the community, and meet amazing local business owners!

Q: What would you like for people to know about your job/business?

I do a lot of research to learn about new places and businesses to share but my absolute favorite thing is when someone asks for a recommendation for something specific and I get to figure it out for them!

Q: What or who has been your biggest inspiration?
My husband Luke, for sure. He owned a local coffee shop centered around spreading kindness into the community and I think that’s something we all need more of. More encouragement for those around us, more support in general.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Lexington and what is your go to item on the menu?

Oh my gosh, why are you doing this to me?! I love the salmon Oscar-style from Carson’s, the Lexingtonian salad from Malone’s, and the fettuccini carbonara from Pasta Garage but my list could go on and on!

Q: If you could travel to anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

France or Italy for the fresh foods and bread! Egypt for my love of History

Q: What is your favorite thing about Lexington?

Wow, how do I choose just one thing? The community here is incredible. Very few places are so locally minded and have as much hometown pride as Lexington does!

Q: Where do you take friends and family from out of town when they visit?

The Distillery District is a fun one-stop for food, drinks, etc

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

Sharing about local businesses on a national scale. Helping small businesses grow and writing a book.

Q: If you could have lunch with any living person, who would it be?

Brene Brown. I am fascinated by psychology and her work on vulnerability

Q: Where can we find you on your day off?

At a coffee shop or a thrift store

Q: What is something on your bucket list?

Writing a book for sure!

Q: What is something that most people don’t know about you?

I am very sarcastic which I don’t think people would assume about me. I also love encouraging people! I could sit for hours and logically explain why you should go after your dreams and create a plan to start!

Q: What is a topic you wish you knew more about?

Vintage fashion

Q: What is your favorite movie or TV show & what are you currently binge-watching?

My comfort show is definitely Frasier. Nothing super recent but my last binge-watch was probably Schitt’s Creek

Q: What do you feel is an essential part of your daily or weekly routine that contributes to your overall well-being?

Sitting outside, reading a book/listening to a podcast—something that invests back into me

Q: If you were cast in a movie, who would your co-star be?

Paul Rudd, maybe? I think I’m funny and he’s funny in that normal person sorta way

Q: Who is your go-to band or artist when you can’t decide on something to listen to?

Weezer or The Beach Boys

Q: If you could give advice to any group of people, what would it be?

Whatever it is that’s you’re waiting for the perfect time to do, do it now. There is no perfect time to start, you just have to do it. Reach out for support and your community will come alongside you. These dreams exist inside of you for a reason.
