The Faces of Lexington: Erinn Foglesong

Meet Erinn Foglesong. Erinn and her husband live in Lexington with their sweet wild child, Max, and two fur babes, Boomer and Minnie. She is the owner, baker, designer, decorator, artist, and graphic designer of two Lexington businesses. Her baking adventures began when she was just a child hanging out with her Nana in the kitchen. Years later, she found herself baking everything but brownies when she decided to go on a hunt around town to find the perfect brownie to satisfy her craving. When she couldn’t find one, she decided to just make her own! The idea for the first and only gourmet brownie company in Kentucky, The Brownie Bae, was born. The baking began and the ideas of flavor combinations haven’t stopped flowing. Check out her Facebook page for more information and find out how to place your order!

Along with the Brownie Bae, Erinn is also the owner and creative talent of Lexington Lettering, LLC | Calligraphy + Graphic Design Services, where she designs handmade decorative items and calligraphy art, which can be purchased in her Etsy shop, http://LexingtonLettering.etsy.com.

Q: Tell us a little bit about your family.

A: Married for 5 years. We have a 3 YO little boy named Max. We have two amazingly perfect dogs we adopted from Lexington Humane Society in 2012 (Boomer) and 2014 (Minnie).

I work from home, while keeping my 3YO so if you see me in public and I only have sockets where my eyes use to be, that’s why. Prior to opening my businesses I worked as a Health Educator at Transylvania University. I worked out of the Student Wellness Center so I really got to be hands-on with the students, which I loved. I planned and implemented health education programs as they pertained to college students (alcohol education, sexual health education, mental health awareness, etc…) and had an absolute BLAST. As for my future career, I would LOVE to open a store-front merging my two businesses…so The Brownie Bae and Gifts, or something like that. Maybe when Max goes off to school!

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?

A: Ramsey’s. Hands down. I love my country, home-cooked meals. And Drake’s. Their smashburgers are STUPID good. And their fried calamari roll is bomb.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?

A: My husband (then boyfriend) and I moved here in 2011 to start graduate school at UK!

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?

A: Ummm. Interesting…this is a tough question. There are SO MANY local business owners I have met that are all amazing and I can’t just narrow it down to one. I am the worst at narrowing down options, so let’s just say the majority of the local business owner community is rad.

Q: If you could travel to anywhere in the world (non-pandemic), where would you go and why?

A: Ireland! My heritage is Irish and I would LOVE to go there and learn more about their culture.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

A: Okay, I know I already said I am really bad at narrowing down choices…also, my favorite movies and TV shows vary based on my mood. Basically any scary movie is my favorite. Especially if they are based on true events. Oh, and old school Disney Halloween movies! Like, Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, Disney Halloween Treat. Naturally, halloween is my favorite holiday lol. True crime documentaries, paranormal/ghost shows, The Office, Schitt’s Creek, and Everybody Loves Raymond.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?

A: Stay overnight at Waverly Hills!

Q: What is your go to band when you cant decide what to listen to?

A: Pentatonix

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?

A: Spauldings! They have been around forever and people really appreciate that. Also, their doughnuts are legit.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?

A: I am really sad Robin Williams isn’t alive because he would be my choice. Um…Jada Pinkett Smith. Her talk show Red Table Talk is AH-MAZING. So many GOOD TOPICS and hard topics to discuss. She is so open-minded and willing to learn and knows how to have a healthy conversation (which a lot of people need to take after her, IMO). We would meet at Ramsey’s because there’s something for everyone and it’s my favorite.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?

A: I feel like Lexington is very accepting of other cultures and lifestyles (for the most part) and I love that.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

A: Banging out some brownies and gifts at my Brownie Bae storefront!

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

A: I am 50/50 right brain and left brain. I feel like that is kind of unusual. Also, I can yodel. I’m just a strange creature lol.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?

A: Aruba!

Q: Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?

A: September-December because of fall. Halloweeeeeeen. Single best day? I am going to go with January 1st, 2021 because this year has been sh*t and I’m hopeful.

Q:What would you rate a 10 out of 10?

A: Ramsey’s ranch dressing. MOD pepperoni pizza. My brownies, duh. And last but not least, EQUALITY!

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

A: My family (including my dogs) and my friends.

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?

A: FALL CANDLES! give me all the fall candles. and charcoal from a charcoal grill.

Q: What advice would you give to people?

A: 1). Don’t be a Richard! 2) Don’t assume, because it makes an ASS out of U and ME (my dad always said this was the 11th commandment). 3) Love thy friggin’ neighbor.
